Personal Journal: Hannah’s Prayer & Spiritual Barrenness

Original Entry Date 5/1/2016: As I am reading 1 Samuel 2 (Hannah’s Triumphant Prayer) I am struck by the commentary for verse 1. In verse 1 (KJV) we read:
And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
The commentary is rather large so I am going to share the portion for the ending of the verse: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies;
meaning Peninnah, and those that provoked her, and upbraided her with her barrenness, to whom she was not able to make any reply; but now her mouth was opened, and she could speak largely, and did; not in a way of reproach and reviling, in retaliation for what she had met with from others; but in prayer to God, to whom she could come with open mouth, and use freedom and boldness, and plead with importunity, fervency, and in faith, and in praise and thanksgiving to him for the great and good things he had done for her, and would now freely and largely speak of them to others; to some, her friends, to their joy and pleasure; and to others, her enemies, to their grief and confusion.

The word “Barrenness” stands out to me. Hannah was barren without child for a long time and it was a very great hardship for her. She poured out her heart to the Lord in prayer and vowed that she would give her son to the service of the Lord all of his life. God granted her prayer.
As I read “barrenness” I heard the Spirit speak to me that this represents spiritual bareness; which I am going through at this time.
I hear Him ask, “Do you understand?”
I understand that even though I am going through a time of feeling barren, like Hannah, I should keep faith in God; that He has a plan and a purpose. He will fill that which is is Barren with the power of His Holy Spirit.

I am a gal who lives in the Bay Area, CA. This site is not meant to be about me but rather it is about what God has shown and continues to show me in His Word and when I am in prayer with Him. I hope these entries inspire you to seek His Face, He desires you to do so and even if you don't think so...it is also what your heart and soul have longed for since birth. Over the years I wrote down every sort of spiritual revelation that would pop out at me when reading the Bible. I thought to myself, "what do you want me to d with all this, Lord?" That's when it hit me! Why not start a blog and put everything He has given you on there. And so I did.
