Symbolization: The Trumpets before the Ark

Original Entry Date 3/28/2015: There are many connections, great and small, between the OT and the NT. While reading Joshua 6, the destruction of Jericho, verse 8 catches my eye!

Following the Ark, Following Jesus

Joshua 6:8 NKJV:

8 So it was, when Joshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Lord advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.
Here we have a beautifully painted picture of the Trumpets that will sound before the coming of Christ Jesus in Revelation.

The Connection

The ark of the covenant is an Old Testament symbol of Christ Jesus. Notice how in verse 8 it reads that there were 7 priests blowing 7 trumpets and then followed the ark of the covenant of the Lord. That is exactly how it is described in Revelation: 7 Trumpets will sound and then the coming of Christ or as it is described the ark of the covenant is seen.

Revelation 11:15-19 NIV:

15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:

“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,
and he will reign for ever and ever.”

16 And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:

“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
the One who is and who was,
because you have taken your great power
and have begun to reign.
18 The nations were angry,
and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,
and for rewarding your servants the prophets
and your people who revere your name,
both great and small—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

19 Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.

A Final Thought, The Final Shout

One last thing I want to point out is from the book of Joshua. The 7 priests with the 7 trumpets walk before the Ark of the Covenant and all the people of Israel follow. After circling the fortress walls of the city of Jericho 7 times, the priests blow the 7 trumpets. The people of Israel hear this and make a GREAT SHOUT! And then the walls of Jericho fall down.

Joshua 6:16 & 20 NRSV

16 And at the seventh time, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city…..
20 So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpets, they raised a great shout, and the wall fell down flat; so the people charged straight ahead into the city and captured it.

I am a gal who lives in the Bay Area, CA. This site is not meant to be about me but rather it is about what God has shown and continues to show me in His Word and when I am in prayer with Him. I hope these entries inspire you to seek His Face, He desires you to do so and even if you don't think so...it is also what your heart and soul have longed for since birth. Over the years I wrote down every sort of spiritual revelation that would pop out at me when reading the Bible. I thought to myself, "what do you want me to d with all this, Lord?" That's when it hit me! Why not start a blog and put everything He has given you on there. And so I did.
