Symbolization: The Deaf Can Hear! The Mute Can Speak!

Original Entry Date: 1/15/2017: As we go through the Gospels we read about Jesus performing MANY miracles. It’s amazing to think that these were only just a fragment of the miraculous events that came through Him as John wrote.

John 21:25 NKJV:

And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

Now that would be A LOT of books!!! That is something to sit back and think about! Today, I want to look at one of the miracles specifically in the Gospel of Mark. Now as we read, bring to mind that this same type of miracle was repeated throughout the Gospels. I have found that when something is repeated throughout God’s Word, He is trying to relay a very important message or He is trying to show us something. Sometimes, we have to be shown something repeatedly before we can grasp it, like a mathematical formula or something like that.

Mark 7:31-37 AMP:

Soon after this Jesus left the region of Tyre, and passed through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, through the region of Decapolis [the ten Hellenistic cities]. 32 They brought to Him a man who was deaf and had difficulty speaking, and they begged Jesus to place His hand on him. 33 Jesus, taking him aside by himself, away from the crowd, put His fingers into the man’s ears, and after spitting, He touched the man’s tongue [with the saliva]; 34 and looking up to heaven, He sighed deeply and said to the man, “Ephphatha,” which [in Aramaic] means, “Be opened and released!” 35 And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he began speaking plainly. 36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it. 37 They were thoroughly astounded and completely overwhelmed, saying, “He has done everything well! He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak!”

Healing the deaf and healing the mute are miracles that Jesus commonly performed throughout the Gospels. While reading this, one morning, it dawned on me that this is a symbol of when we receive Jesus and the Holy Spirit!

Just as Jesus put His fingers in the man’s ears and they were opened so He does to us when we come to know and believe in Him. He opens our ears, giving us the ability to hear His voice and to understand His Word. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus will teach and He will “He who as ears to hear, Let him hear!”

John 10:27 NKJV:

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

And finally, Jesus touches the man’s tongue and he is able to speak coherently. This connects with our transformation in Christ as well! Our tongues are loosed and God grants us the power to proclaim the Gospel to the world.

1 Thessalonians 2:3-5 TPT:

but we have been approved by God to be those who preach the gospel. So our motivation to preach is not pleasing people but pleasing God, who thoroughly examines our hearts.

He also gives us boldness to speak the spiritual truths that He has revealed to us.

Matthew 10:27 NKJV:

“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.

Let’s bring that to remembrance each day; that these miracles we read in the NT have been done to us, as well. Each day in Christ Jesus is a reason to celebrate with thanks and Praise! We can now HEAR and we can now SPEAK. We can also SEE but that will be another entry on another day :).

I am a gal who lives in the Bay Area, CA. This site is not meant to be about me but rather it is about what God has shown and continues to show me in His Word and when I am in prayer with Him. I hope these entries inspire you to seek His Face, He desires you to do so and even if you don't think so...it is also what your heart and soul have longed for since birth. Over the years I wrote down every sort of spiritual revelation that would pop out at me when reading the Bible. I thought to myself, "what do you want me to d with all this, Lord?" That's when it hit me! Why not start a blog and put everything He has given you on there. And so I did.
