Original Entry Date 6/8/2015: Here is a brief entry note I made while reading about David and Goliath in 1 Samuel. This is a Very spiritually rich story with symbolism that connects to the coming of Christ and I do believe the very end of the world.
In today’s entry we will not dissect all of that but instead we will look at a brief detail stated at the beginning of chapter 17.
To give some background, the Philistines are a representation of the world (or those who do not believe in Jesus as the savior) and the men (meaning people, not just men) of Israel represent those who believe and walk with Jesus.
1 Samuel 17:1-3 NKJV:
Now the Philistines gathered their armies together to battle, and were gathered at Sochoh, which belongs to Judah; they encamped between Sochoh and Azekah, in Ephes Dammim. 2 And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and they encamped in the Valley of Elah, and drew up in battle array against the Philistines. 3 The Philistines stood on a mountain on one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side, with a valley between them.
There in the last verse, we see a symbol of the people of God (Israel) high and lifted up (this is symbolized by them being on a mountain) but also the people of the world are on a mountain on the other side. Why that is, is because as we are here in this world it will look as though the people of the world are the ones seemingly high and lifted up (because they may be rich of the things of the world). But the truth is the people of God are the ones who are truly high and lifted up because we have been made rich in the realm of the Spirit.
Now also notice in the same verse, how it states there is a valley between them. Both are on opposites sides, high and lifted up, but there is a valley, a low place (spiritual dryness, thirst for God), that each will experience…except only one will experience it eternally.
