Original Entry Date 1/27/2016: (leave a comment below if you’ve experienced this type of demonic spirit during your Walk with God) As we know, there are spirits amongst us, operating either for the Glory of God or for the schemes of satan. The Jezebel spirit is one that is under satanic operation and is sent out to cause division amongst the Body of Christ (this spirit is known to operate on the sly within the church; being in a Leadership role or having a great influence on the heads of the church)
It hates the Prophetic Word and is all about shutting the Prophets of God down. (This spirit will present itself as being holy and highly spiritual; may even claim to be a prophet of God.)
It uses sexual temptation to lead people off track in their Walk; commonly those who are high up in a Leadership role.
There are other characteristics of this evil spirit that you can read about in this interesting document I found online at the following link:
Why is this spirit called the Jezebel Spirit?
This is simply because it portrays itself, in the SAME manner, having the same agenda as Jezebel, herself. This is depicted clearly in the OT.
We are going to begin our read at the portion of Scripture that immediately follows the GREAT GLORIFYING move of God, as fire is called down from Heaven onto Elijah’s sacrifice and rain eventually comes to the land. This put all the Baal worshippers to shame as their god was nowhere to be heard when they called out to him.
1 Kings 19:1-8 AMP:Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets [of Baal] with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me, and even more, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like the life of one of them.” 3 And Elijah was afraid and arose and ran for his life, and he came to Beersheba which belongs to Judah, and he left his servant there. 4 But he himself traveled a day’s journey into the wilderness, and he came and sat down under a juniper tree and asked [God] that he might die. He said, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” 5 He lay down and slept under the juniper tree, and behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Get up and eat.” 6 He looked, and by his head there was a bread cake baked on hot coal, and a pitcher of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. 7 Then the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Get up, and eat, for the journey is too long for you [without adequate sustenance].” 8 So he got up and ate and drank, and with the strength of that food he traveled forty days and nights to Horeb (Sinai), the mountain of God.
Here we see another characteristic of the Jezebel Spirit; it uses intimidation, causing God’s people to have a false sense of fear and hopelessness. It can drain the Joy of the Lord from a person to the point where they want to die. We see this described above with how fearful Elijah became by her threats and how he falls into a dark place asking God to take his life. For goodness sakes! This man just called fire down from Heaven by the Power of our God!! That is how this type of demonic force operates but that doesn’t mean we are in any way defeated by it. The biggest weapon against it is when a Child of God is knowledgeable of its existence, knows how it operates, and is discerning of the spirits. Knowing God’s Word, being close to Him, and always testing the spirits will cause this Jezebel to get the heck out of dodge!
Looking back at the scripture we see Elijah in a state of despair, BUT then we see a Promise from God that is for us today. Just as we become weary in our Walk, being in a harsh spiritual battle and just wanting to lay down and walk no further. That is when Christ will come to us and touch us, empowering us to continue on (verse 5, the Angel of the Lord touches Elijah). This also teaches us that during a battle we need to rest in Christ Jesus, being strengthened by His Presence as well as reading the Word which is symbolized by the bread cakes that were by Elijah’s head. And take a long drink of the Living Water. This is TRUE spiritual sustenance!
Elijah lived off of that Bread and Water for quite some time (another 40 days!!) and the same goes for us, Christ will empower us to overcome all evil obstacles that stand in the way.
