Original Entry Date 9/16/2014: If you’ve been reading this blog for a little while you will notice that there are many repetitive topics. What I mean is the types and symbols will point to a similar spiritual truth but are extracted from different portions of scripture. For instance, there are so many types of Jesus in the Word, there are also many OT accounts that connect with being refined, fighting spiritual battles, etc…
One of my favorites is to see the account of the spiritual rebirth out of the flesh into the Spirit as described in stories of the OT (one being when Elisha calls down fire from Heaven). This foreshadowing of what was to come is hidden away in the Word and can be found from the very beginning in Genesis 1!
Genesis 1:1-5 NKJV:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
On day 1, God makes light and day as well as darkness and night. The Light symbolizes us being brought into the Light from the darkness of the world.
Genesis 1: 6-8 NKJV:
6 Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
On Day 2 God separates the waters from each other (water, the cleansing agent. Also a symbol of baptism) and called it Heavens (our key to Heaven is the cleansing agent of Christ’s Blood).
Genesis 1:9-10 NKJV:
9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
On Day 3, God creates and separates the seas and the land (Christ causes those who are in Him to stand on solid land. We won’t sink and drown as long as we keep faith in Christ. Think of Peter attempting to walk on Water. What caused him to sink? Doubt.)
Genesis 1:11-13 NKJV:
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.
Also, on the 3rd Day God brings life from the ground creating grass, herbs, seeds, and FRUIT. The Fruit of a life turned over to Christ Jesus. Let’s also remember what the number 3 symbolizes in the Word:
Genesis 1:14-15 NKJV:
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.
And the final thing I will point out is the Lights of the Heavens (the stars) that will give Light upon the earth. We are those stars shining in the darkness of the night sky. Just as Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, we are the Light of the World.
Philippians 2:14-15 AMPC:
14 Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining [against God] and questioning and doubting [among yourselves],
15 That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world,
