Original Entry Date 1/3/2016: After reading the letters to the 7 churches In Revelation we come to Revelation 4. This chapter begins with John’s vision of Heaven and entering the Throne Room. With this vision comes a connection with Jesus’s prayer in Matthew.
Revelation 4:1-6 NIV:
After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. 4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. 6 Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.
In verse 2 John states that, at once he was in the Spirit and then he saw the Throne in Heaven. This connects with Jesus prayer in Matthew 6:
Matthew 6:9-10 NIV:
…“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Your Kingdom Come, Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Bringing the perfection, the very essence of Heaven down to earth. In John’s vision we see the Heaven that Jesus prays to come or be done upon the earth. This will come through us, His Body. How?
When we are Walking in the Spirit, Heaven comes down to earth. In the Throne Room scene we see that portrayed as the 7 lamps burning before the Throne which is a symbol of the Seven-Fold Holy Spirit.

When we are in the Spirit, the essence of God flows from our hearts like the River of Life (the Sea of Glass before the Throne Rev 4:6). Here’s a portion of an earlier blog post of mine that will shed some light on what I mean:
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
The Spirit then revealed that God’s Throne is the throne of our hearts. The Spirit then spoke to me that His Throne is the Throne of Grace and our hearts are to be the same. I sat there, stunned, so He repeatedly asked, “Do you understand?” and I said, I did. The River of Life flows from our hearts (grace, God’s gifts) on to the lost and this draws them to God.

Just as John was in the Spirit when He obeyed the voice of the Lord, Jesus, to “Come Up” to the Heavenly Throne Room, so are we to obey His voice when we are called to a higher place.
