Symbolization: When the Cloud Lifts from the Tabernacle

Original Entry Date 9/7/2013: At Bible Study, last night we listened to a recorded sermon from another church. Briefly, the speaker mentioned how the Presence of God was amongst Israel, specifically by His Spirit residing within the Tabernacle.
Then the soft whisper of the Holy Spirit hit me like a ton of bricks, revealing what was a mystery to me! I actually had prayed about this some time ago, asking to be given understanding. I recall asking God to reveal to me why He was a Cloud by Day and Fire by Night?!?!
I am sure there is more to reveal about this but at this moment it dawned on me that when His Spirit (the Cloud) was taken up they (Israel) would journey onward. If the Cloud was not taken up they would wait and be still. They would not journey onward until the Cloud rose up above the Tabernacle.

Exodus 40:36-38 NIV:

36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. 38 So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

Numbers 9:17-23 NIV

17 Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, after that the children of Israel would journey; and in the place where the cloud settled, there the children of Israel would pitch their tents. 18 At the command of the Lord the children of Israel would journey, and at the command of the Lord they would camp; as long as the cloud stayed above the tabernacle they remained encamped. 19 Even when the cloud continued long, many days above the tabernacle, the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord and did not journey. 20 So it was, when the cloud was above the tabernacle a few days: according to the command of the Lord they would remain encamped, and according to the command of the Lord they would journey. 21 So it was, when the cloud remained only from evening until morning: when the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they would journey; whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud was taken up, they would journey. 22 Whether it was two days, a month, or a year that the cloud remained above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would remain encamped and not journey; but when it was taken up, they would journey. 23 At the command of the Lord they remained encamped, and at the command of the Lord they journeyed; they kept the charge of the Lord, at the command of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

Israel’s journey through the wilderness to the Promised Land can be likened to our journey through this life to the Promised Land of Heaven. Just as He signaled His people by lifting the cloud so He does the same for us by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We are guided by the still, small voice. When the Spirit lifts up we journey onward, when the Spirit settles down upon the Tabernacle, we stand still in the Presence of God and find rest.

Psalm 46:10 NKJV:

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
